Why the Dominican Republic Was Chosen as Our First Impact Region

A Decision Rooted in Care, Research, and Responsibility

Choosing where to begin is one of the most important decisions a foundation can make. For The Growth Foundation, selecting the Dominican Republic as our first impact region was not about speed or visibility—it was about doing things right.

After months of research, conversations, and evaluation, the Dominican Republic emerged as a place where meaningful, long-term change could be built through community-led programs.

A Country of Strength and Opportunity

The Dominican Republic is a nation rich in culture, resilience, and local leadership. Yet, like many developing regions, it faces challenges related to education access, food security, housing safety, and youth employment—particularly in underserved communities.

These challenges are not rooted in lack of effort or potential, but in systemic gaps that require consistent, long-term solutions rather than one-time interventions.

Why Focus Matters

Rather than spreading resources thin across multiple countries, The Growth Foundation chose to start with focus.

By concentrating efforts in one country:

  • Programs can be tailored to real community needs

  • Local partnerships can be strengthened

  • Impact can be measured accurately

  • Growth can be responsible and sustainable

Starting small allows us to learn, adapt, and improve before scaling elsewhere.

A Long-Term Commitment

This is not a short-term project. The Growth Foundation is committed to building trust, relationships, and systems that last. The Dominican Republic is the beginning—not the end—of a much larger vision for global impact.
